Excise duty on alcohol

Excise duty is increased in line with inflation on beer, wine and cider. These increases will take effect on Monday 26 March 2007 and will add 1p to the price of a pint of beer or a litre of still cider, 5p to a bottle of wine or sparkling cider, and 7p to a bottle of sparkling wine. For the 10th successive year excise duty on spirits remains unchanged. The smallest brewers will continue to benefit from a 50% relief in the excise duty charge.

Our view
Once again this Chancellor freezes spirit duty and introduces inflation only increases on other alcoholic products.
