On 13 May, Chancellor Alistair Darling announced an increase in the
personal allowance of £600 - to £6,035. The change will be backdated to 6
April 2008 and will go through payrolls in September, when basic rate
taxpayers will receive an extra £60, with a further £10 every month
thereafter. At the same time, the higher rate threshold will be reduced by
£1,200 to £34,800.
These changes are reflected in our Tax Tables, which may be subject to
further amendment during the passage of the Finance Bill through Parliament.
