Child Trust Fund - payments for disabled children
The measure
The Government will make payments of £100 each year to the Child Trust Fund (CTF) accounts of disabled children (or £200 in the case of severely disabled children). The Government payments will not affect the £1,200 annual limit that still applies to contributions by friends and family.
Who will be affected?
Disabled children born on or after 1 September 2002 and who are in receipt of Disability Living Allowance during 2009/10.
When?
The CTF payments will start in April 2010.
Our view
We welcome the new rules, which increase the amount of cash available to disabled children when they turn 18.
